How is the estimated due date calculated?

The EDD is calculated by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the date of your last menstrual period (LMP), following Naegele's rule adjusted for actual menstrual cycle length. It's a statistical estimate: only a small percentage of births occur exactly on that date.
